Deva Racing has recently acquired the well-related Blue Bresil mare Never Told Me, who is fully qualified for the lucrative GBB Bonus and is going into training with Fergal O’Brien in the heart of the Cotswolds.
Now six years of age, Never Told Me had two runs for previous connections, demonstrating a good deal of ability when finishing in mid-division in a hotly contested Class 2 bumper at Cheltenham in the middle of April. That marked her out as a potentially useful mare going forward, particularly as she is going to come into her own when going over obstacles.
She is a half-sister to the talented point-to-point and chase winner So They Say, who cost £30,000 at the 2021 Goffs Yorton Point-to-Point Sale, and out of the Flemensfirth mare Feisty Lass, who won once in a point-to-point and once over hurdles. Feisty Lass is in turn out of the unraced Bob Back mare Back The Queen, who was a full-sister to the Galway Hurdle winner Black Queen (dam of the Gr.2-winning hurdler and Listed-winning chaser Bold Sir Brian).
In addition to a strong profile on the distaff side of her pedigree, Never Told Me is by a sire with an extraordinary track record. A smart dual-purpose performer in France during his racing days, Blue Bresil has developed into an outstanding NH sire, responsible for the brilliant Gr.1 Champion Hurdle winner Constitution Hill, the exceptional French hurdler L’Autonomie, plus the multiple Gr.1-winning chasers Royale Pagaille and Blue Lord, to name just a few.
It is also worth noting that Blue Bresil has a decent record when paired with Flemensfirth mares, the nick resulting in several winners. The most notable among them is Willie Mullins’ highly regarded bumper winner Gameofinches, who rates a leading novice hurdling prospect for next season.
Never Told Me is joining one of the most powerful NH yards in the country, with Fergal O’Brien having sent out over 100 winners in four of the past five seasons, and enjoying Gr.1 success with both Crambo (twice) and Poetic Rhythm. She could not be in better hands, and the fact she is eligible for up to £100,000 in bonuses courtesy of the GBB scheme means that she is a particularly exciting proposition.
