The seven-year-old Fascinating Rock gelding Rock On Pedro has been recruited by Deva Racing and taken up residence at Olly Murphy’s exceptionally provisioned Warren Chase Stables in Wilmcote, Warwickshire.
An €18,000 foal, he is out of the placed Lawman mare Yuki. The dam is a full-sister to the German Listed winner Double Dream and the extended family includes the Gr.1 Prix du Jockey Club winner and sire Reliable Man and the multiple Gr.2-winning chaser French Opera.
Previously trained in Ireland, Rock On Pedro began his career on the Flat as a three-year-old, most notably finishing a nose second in a 1m4½f handicap at Thurles. He improved the following year to win a 1m4f Bellewstown handicap in July 2022 and went on to make his debut over hurdles shortly afterwards.
Fourth behind the high-class Magical Zoe on his hurdling bow at Wexford, he went on to finish second at Listowel on his next start and filled the same position in a Tramore handicap the following summer. Fast forward another year and Rock On Pedro made his chasing debut at the same track. He has now placed on multiple occasions over both hurdles and fences, proving his versatility with regards to distance and underfoot conditions in the process.
Despite producing many good performances, Rock On Pedro remains a maiden over jumps. The upshot is that he looks extremely well-handicapped as he embarks on his career in Britain, with his Irish hurdles mark of 97 and Irish chase mark of 88 vastly underestimating his ability. For recent evidence, look no further than his third at Thurles (2m4f) in November, or his third over 2m2f at Limerick in May, both handicap chases which have produced subsequent winners.
Having joined a trainer who enjoyed a career-best campaign in 2024/25 with 141 winners at a 25% strike-rate, Rock On Pedro could not be in better hands as he seeks to open his account over obstacles. He looks an ideal candidate for summer jumping, but handles softer ground so can also pay his way during the winter.
